A good time was had by all on Sept 20 at the Pinetree Classic XC race in Mundy Park, and our post-race social at Woody’s Pub. (Ask Carol about the excellent coffee with Bailey’s.) The course was somewhat undulating in spots— Neil mentioned it was “hilly” and that was during his FIRST of four trail loops. Terry, of course, also enjoyed the uphill sections.
Here are the PRR results. A * indicates a top-three age-group placing. Race was about 300m shorter than originally advertised as we only did one round of the grass field instead of two to start.
Men – approx 7.8k
Ben* 27:49 (4th overall)
Len 38:35 (3 trail loops instead of 4, perhaps?)
Women – approx 5.9k
Cautionary tale: John was also entered to race but he must’ve got so excited about the prospect, he overwhelmed the nerve in one of his teeth the day before and wound up instead in the dentist’s chair on race day— at the very same time that the race was starting, coincidentally (and yes, that’s an intended pun). We enjoyed our occasion a lot more than John enjoyed his. Lesson: never get too excited about a race.
Some photos of the race have been posted on PRR’s Facebook page– thanks Terry for editing them down into a PRR-only file. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.10153311248220639&type=1 You can also see full race photos (and full results) via http://phoenixrunningclub.com/pinetree-classic/2014-results
Next up: PRR will be subsidizing the race fee for our members at the Remembrance Day 8k XC race in Stanley Park on Tuesday November 11. False Creek Community Centre will be closed for the holiday so this will become our de facto club run that day. Details to follow at a later date via Andy Poon.
