Race Information

Date: Sunday, February 15, 2009
Time: 8:30 am sharp!

Entry limit 2000 runners.
In 2008 we sold out in 5 hours.
Registration closes when the race sells out. No exceptions.
Register early to be assured of your place on the start line.



Start/Finish:
The Roundhouse Community Centre, Vancouver, BC. The Roundhouse is located downtown at the corner of Pacific Boulevard and Davie St.

Course Description:
This very scenic 13.1 mile route goes out on the Seawall, to English Bay, through Stanley Park and back again. The course is marked at every mile and at half way. Please see the Course Map for details. The course is accurately measured and certified BC-2007-124-BDC.

Caution: The city has installed speed bumps on Drake Street, 50m before the finish line. Please be aware of this as you sprint for the finish.


Canadian Springs Water Stations and First Aid:
Canadian Springs Water and Gatorade will be available at 4 locations along the route between the 2 and 11 mile markers, as well as at the finish.

First aid will be located along the course and at the finish line.


Washrooms:
Washrooms will be clearly signed. They are available inside the Roundhouse Community Centre and there will be additional Port-a-Potties outside on Drake Street, giving easy access to the start line. Line up early, as there is always a rush just before start time.

There are also public washrooms around the course.


Bag Check:
A complimentary bag check will be located at The Roundhouse Community Centre. All bags to be checked must be clearly marked with your race number. We do not accept any liability for bags and contents left in the bag check area.


Restrictions (3 hour finishing time limit):
MarketPlace IGA The course will be closed promptly at 11:30 am, allowing 3 hours to complete the race. Race walkers are only permitted if they expect to finish in under 3 hours. No early start for walkers.

We regret that the race is not suitable for recreational walkers, wheelchairs, strollers, baby joggers, or rollerbladers. No pets allowed on the course.


Parking:
Pay parking and limited street parking is available in the local area.


Breakfast:
Open to all participants. Muffins, cereal, fruit, soup, juice, yogurt, bagels, water and coffee will be available at The Roundhouse Community Centre from 9:30 am until 12:00 noon.


Winning Time Canada Timing and Results:
Electronic chip timing will be provided by Winning Time Canada Ltd. Timing chips will be distributed at packet pickup. Non-returned chips will be subject to a replacement fee.

Results will be posted immediately following the event on location. Results will also be posted on the Internet, and in Forerunners after the event.


Race Series:
The "First Half" Half Marathon is a part of the Timex BC Road Running Series.
The "First Half" Half Marathon is also a great training run for the Vancouver International Marathon to be held on Sunday May 3, 2009.


Mizuno Awards:
Awards presentation and draw prizes begin at 11:45 am promptly at The Roundhouse Community Centre.
Overall: Thanks to Mizuno, Cash prizes to the top men and women overall ($600, $300, $200, $100, $50).
Event Record Bonus: Thanks to Mr Downtown - David Crawford, an additional $1,000 cash bonus will be awarded to the first man, and $1,500 to the first woman if they better the current event records.

Women: 1:12:47 (Tina Connelly, 2004)
Age Groups: Thanks to Forerunners, merchandise to the top 3 finishers in each of 24 categories, by gender in 5 year age groups from under 20 to over 70.
Draw Prizes: Everyone is eligible to win the many draw prizes generously donated by our sponsors. Please check the prize board before or after the race to see if you have won.


Finisher Medals:
All finishers will receive a commemorative finishers medal.


Event Shirt:
This year we are happy to offer both a ladies and a mens Mizuno Long Sleeve T-Shirt featuring Dry Science apparel technology, included with all entries.

February 14, Saturday, 12 noon to­ 5 pm

At the Roundhouse Community Centre, on:
February 15, Sunday (race day), 6:30 to 8:00 am
