2010 “First Half” Cancelled
2011 “First Half” Scheduled for February 13, 2011
The Race. Sadly, and after almost two and a half years of trying to negotiate a suitable
date and route, Pacific Road Runners and its sponsors have concluded that it is not possible to
stage the “First Half” in 2010 in a way that does not compromise the quality or character of the
event.
The obvious reason for not running the race on the traditional date in February 2010 is that it
will be the first weekend of the Winter Olympics and our Start/Finish is in the heart of Olympic
action.
What isn’t obvious is that for all of January, February and March 2010, ALL suitable venues are
blocked for Olympic use. We investigated postponing until later in the Spring, but then we run into
many other events, particularly established running events. And we do not wish to compete
against, or negatively impact those events.
Since we cannot stage the event everyone expects, we feel it is better to cancel for 2010.
We hope you will understand and join us again in 2011 when the “First Half” will return –
better than ever - on Sunday, February 13, 2011.
We want to thank all those people and organizations that tried to help us find alternate
arrangements for a 2010 “First Half”.

a way to put on the event, and then in supporting us in our difficult decision not to do so.

have come to love.

All proceeds from the "First Half" Half Marathon are donated to Variety - The Children's Charity.
In 2009 we donated $40,000, bringing our total donations to almost $400,000.
In August 2007, Variety Club Sunshine Coach #500 was donated to the Boys and Girls Club Community Services of Delta/Richmond.
In May 2002, Variety Club Sunshine Coach #438 was donated to the False Creek Community Centre, Vancouver.
In December 2000, Variety Club Sunshine Coach #423 was donated to the Parkgate Community Centre, North Vancouver.
